Drugstore Makeup Look (REQUEST)

I received a request with pictures of an outfit that one of my readers will be wearing to dinner on Saturday night with her family. This is the cardigan that she will be wearing and that I have based this makeup look on:

She also asked if I have tried any drugstore foundation that I would recommend. Yesterday I reviewed the L’Oreal True Match Roller, so this time I wanted to use a different drugstore foundation to provide her with another good brand. I also used only drugstore makeup for this entire look, so that she doesn’t have to go to more than one place to get the products I used. :)

The look I came up with is this reddish-brown look that matches her cardigan with red stripes (I don’t have one like hers, so I just wore similar colors):

Here are the products that I used (feel free to substitute with similar products that you have!) :

Revlon PhotoReady Foundation in “005 Natural Beige”
Revlon Illuminance Creme Shadow in “Twilight”
Milani Glimmer Stripes Face, Cheek, & Eye Color in “08 Bronze Glimmer”
NYX Lipstick in “540 Alecto”
Styli-Style Flat Liner 24 in “704 Blackest Black”

I intentionally picked these products because I can find them in a single store — CVS or Ulta, for example.

I will write a separate review on my thoughts on the Revlon PhotoReady Foundation, but to sum it up — it’s also a very good drugstore foundation that I would recommend (including L’Oreal True Match Roller and Maybelline Super Stay 24-Hour Makeup).

After you’ve applied the foundation of your choice…

STEP 1

Apply the cream color (second from the left) in the Revlon “Twilight” quad on your entire lid — this includes both your highlight/brow bone and lower lid (if you are not yet familiar with these terms, take a look at my eye makeup map). This will act as an eye shadow base that will help make the colors more vibrant. If you already own an eye shadow primer, use that instead!

STEP 2

Apply the lightest color (top stripe) from the Milani Glimmer to your highlight/brow bone with a brush. Also apply some to your inner corner, around your tear duct, and along your inner lower lash line.

STEP 3

Now pick up some of the the light brown color (middle stripe) and apply lightly to your crease area. Blend where the light brown color meets the highlight color.

STEP 4

Apply the reddish color (second stripe from the bottom) and pack it onto your lower lid — this means put a lot of the color on the brush and pat the brush on your lid repeatedly to intensify the color.

STEP 5

Now use the darker brown color (last stripe), and apply it to your outer V.

STEP 6

Line your eyes — here I used a black Styli-Style liner and smudged the line with a pencil brush to smooth out the line. If you don’t have a pencil brush, you can use a Q-tip to lightly smudge it.

STEP 7

Now it’s time for your cheeks! Using a large powder brush, swipe the brush head on all 5 colors of the Milani Glimmer — this will be your blush. Smile and apply the blush on the apples of your cheeks.

STEP 8

Apply lipstick — here I used a copper-colored NYX lipstick to match the eye shadow and blush.

Now’s the time to add mascara, lip gloss, etc., if you want.

You’re all set! Have a wonderful night out!
