Lady GaGa “Alejandro” Inspired Makeup Look (REQUEST)

I received this request from one of my readers:

“Hi! I’ve been following you for a few weeks after seeing something on facebook about this site. I’m a PhD student in Cell and Developmental biology, and a makeup obsession.

In ANY case, if you have happened upon the new Lady Gaga music video, in the initial scenes in the video she has a stunning look with very very pale eyes and red lips. It also looks as though her eyebrows have some sort of extension. Anyway, it’s beautiful and I have a mind to try it myself. I’d like to see you do this look! I’d be very excited.”

Here’s a picture of Lady GaGa’s makeup in this music video on the left and my rendition of her look on the right (click picture to enlarge):

I don’t consider this makeup look to be wearable (though there are definitely ways to make it wearable, which I mention at the end). Lady GaGa wasn’t wearing any eye liner on her upper lash line or mascara in this video. She’s pretty much wearing a vintage look with a twist. I just made a brunette version with a more dramatic color for my outer V, and I also used my clip-in Hairdo Bangs.

If you want to try this look as well, start your Lady GaGa playlist (like I did!) and follow these steps!

STEP 1

Use a foundation that is lighter than your skin tone. I used the lightest cream foundation I have to make my face look as pale as possible.

Also apply some on the outside of your ear, under your jaw, and down your neck (and behind your neck if it shows) if you’re planning to wear this outside.

Powder your face with an colorless or pale translucent powder to set the cream foundation.

STEP 2

Prime your eye with Too Faced Shadow Insurance, if desired. Then use a frosty white cream on your inner corner and tear duct, and smear it along the inner half of your crease and lower lash line.

I used Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in “4 Snow” (click here to read my review on these new aqua creams).

STEP 3

Apply a light brown color on your outer and middle lower lid. I used MAC E/S in “Patina”.

To brighten the frosty white cream, apply a frosty white eyeshadow on top — like MAC E/S in “White Frost”.

STEP 4

Use a medium to dark brown color on your outer V and blend it along outer half of crease.

I used MAC E/S in “Satin Taupe”.

STEP 5

Use a matte eyeshadow that’s similar to the foundation color you used, and apply it as highlight.

STEP 6

Now it’s time to brighten your lower lash line! Lightly line your lower water line a couple times with a white pencil.

I used Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in “Yeyo”. I also lined my lower lash line with this pencil to open up my eyes more.

STEP 7

Block out the outer part of your brows — everything after the arch begins to go downwards. There are more professional ways of doing this, but to keep it simple just use a thick layer of concealer. Then fill in your brows with a color similar to your haircolor (Lady GaGa’s eyebrows match her hair color in this video), but when you reach the arch keep extending it up and outward. You could also apply same highlight eyeshadow on top of the concealer, if desired.

Skip this step if you want to make this look wearable!

STEP 8

Make a realistic fake beauty mark 1 to 1 1/2 centimeters below your right eye’s outer corner. Click here to see my technique on how to make a realistic fake mole!

STEP 9

Contour your nose if you want to make it appear taller, like I did on the right. Also contour your cheeks (click here to see step-by-step details).

I used Benefit Bronzing Powder in “Hoola”.

STEP 10

Finish the look by lining your lips and then filling them with a red lip pencil. Then apply a deep red lip stick.

I used MAC Lip Pencil in “Cherry” (a brighter red) with MAC Pro Matte L/S in “Full Chocolate” to darken the red.

To make this look wearable:

  • Use your everyday foundation that matches your skin tone.
  • After applying the eye shadow, line your upper lash line with black eyeliner.
  • Apply black mascara to your top and bottom lashes.
  • Skip Step 7! Fill in your eyebrows with your usual shape.
  • Skip the beauty mark… or not. :)
