MAC “Blue Brown” Pigment is a duochrome color, which means it shifts between two different colors depending on the way light hits it. Duochromes are fun to incorporate into your makeup, because you can play around with colored primers or eye shadows to put underneath them to transform the color (especially when you use a black base). It’s like getting two colors for the price of one — just like when you apply pigments wet or dry!
MAC “Blue Brown” Pigment is brown with blue/green pearl. Here’s how this pigment looks by itself without any base:

When you apply this duochrome pigment on top of a black base, the green pearl shows up. You can use a black primer (like MAC “Blackground” Paint Pot, which I’ve used here), a black eye shadow, or you can even smudge a black eyeliner pencil on your lid.

Here’s an EOTD that I came up with when I first tried out this pigment. I applied this pigment wet on my entire lower lid. This made the brown look more of a reddish brown!

Do you have any favorite duochrome pigments/eye shadows? Leave a comment, and let us know!

Did you mean to say the whole upper lid?? Confused because the lower lid is not reddish..
this EOTD is one of my favorites! thanks for the tips on how to use this pigment over a black base
Hi Molly! The black base really makes a big difference with the color.
Hi Jackie,
I applied the pigment wet on the lower lid (which is the area starting from the upper lash line to just under the crease). The way I see it (especially towards the center to outer lower lid), it’s a reddish brown color.
