Milani came out with a line of heavy glitter and jewel nail lacquers called Rockstar Nails. This line includes two types of lacquers — One Coat Glitter (full coverage, highly concentrated glitter) and Jewel FX (chunky glitter with faceted jewel like effects). One Coat Glitter comes in five shades: “Red Sparkle”, “Silver Dazzle”, “Blue Flash”, “Purple Gleam”, and “Gold Glitz”. Jewel FX comes in “Gems” (multi-colored), “Gold”, and “Silver”. I got one of each type — One Coat Glitter in “Blue Flash” and Jewel FX in “Gold”.

Here are some closeups of the glitter, so you can see the differences in glitter size and concentration. Both types are clear nail lacquers with glitter in them, but the One Coat Glitter is so heavily packed with glitter that any color you might already have on your nail underneath it won’t show up.

When I tested these out, I was just about to redo my nail polish since my nails grew out, so I figured I’d try different ways to apply the glitter before I removed the old polish. I did a reverse French manicure on my thumb and a regular French manicure on my index finger with the blue glitter. I put a stripe of gold Jewel FX down the middle of my middle finger and French tipped my ring finger as well. Just a note on the reverse French — this is great to do when your nails grow out (like mine did in this picture) and you want a quick way to touch up your nail polish.

For the holidays, I wanted my nails to be red with some gold tips. This picture was taken 5 days after I painted my nails — there’s some chipping on the tips (mainly my thumbnail), but overall not too shabby!
I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Nail Polish in “550 All Fired Up” (from my Christmas Stocking) and tipped the ends of my nails with Milani Jewel FX in “Gold”. For some extra protection, I also added a top coat of Cina Top Coat and Bonder that’s specifically formulated to bond and seal nail jewelry. Once dry, I ended up filing down some of the glitter that was hanging over the tips of my nails.

As with most glitter nail lacquers, they’re a bit of a pain to remove, but on the upside they stay on fairly well (though I’m sure the extra top coat I used helped with that). For only $4.99 each, these Milani Rockstar Nail products are a lot of fun to play with. These will surely bedazzle your nails!

I was contemplating the blue color. It looks very wearable. Not too bright, not too dark. Thanks for the review and swatches.
Hi Jane! You’re welcome
