MAC has been re-releasing the same limited edition Kohl Power Eye Pencil in “Feline” many times over the past few years, and now it’s back with the Cham Pale Collection that launched here in North America on December 26, 2010.

“Feline” is a very intense rich black color with a very soft and smooth cream-like consistency. You can easily apply, blend, and smudge this pencil, making it great for smokey eye looks. But on the downside, it could possibly smudge when you don’t want it to. To prevent unwanted smudging, set it with a black eye shadow (which is what I do anyway when I use any eye pencil to define my upper lash line). The picture on the right shows how Feline looks like on my upper lash line. I didn’t set it here to test out its staying power. I was reminding myself though throughout the day to not touch near the wing or tear duct (since my eyes tend to get watery). By the end of the day it looked like I just put it on, except with the wing smudge a bit — not too bad, but I would still prefer to set it (and forget it)!
I like using MAC “Carbon” eye shadow with a MAC 266 Small Angled Brush to set black pencil liners.

Since I prefer waterproof gel liners for my upper lash line, I usually save black pencils for my waterline. My favorite black pencil has been MAC Eye Kohl in “Smolder”, which I’ve used in several looks on this site. Here’s how the “Feline” Kohl Power Eye Pencil compares to MAC’s Eye Kohl in “Smolder”:

“Feline” is darker than “Smolder”, and I would say it’s one of the blackest black pencils I’ve come across. In terms of color intensity, the closest pencil to “Feline” would be Urban Decay’s “Perversion”. However, “Perversion” is also a limited edition pencil (currently, you can’t buy it on its own — it comes with the UD 15-Year Anniversary 24/7 Pencil Set). “Feline” is $14.50 and is already sold out on the MAC website, so check your nearest MAC store/counter if you want to get your hands on one. I’m happy with my “Smolder” pencil for all my black waterline needs, so even though I love the color of “Feline” I probably won’t be stocking up before the next time it’s re-released.
