I met Izzy during freshman orientation at UC Berkeley a few years ago. Although we didn’t have a single class together in college, we stayed good friends ever since! After moving away for law school the past few years, she’s back in my neck of the woods so I get to hang out with her more often! Izzy was heading to Las Vegas for the weekend to attend her friend’s wedding, and she asked me if I could show her some makeup looks. She brought her makeup stash (which turned out to be half consisting of makeup gifts I had given her over the years LOL!), and I first came up with this look to match the dress she bought for the wedding:
In the pictures above, I only put makeup on one side of her face since I was saving the other eye for a different makeup look. I showed her how to apply the eye shadow using a light brown color (from her Physicians Formula “Smoky Brown Eyes” Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner, Smoky Collection) as a wash on the entire lid, MAC “Honey Lust” E/S on the center lid to inner corner for some shimmer, and a mix of MAC “Jaan” Limited Edition E/S and “Carbon” (from the MAC & Mickey Contractor Athma E/S Quad) on the outer V to create dimension. Since Izzy doesn’t like the feel of heavy foundation, I used Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20 – Oil Free in “Bisque” as well as Bobbi Brown corrector and concealer to brighten under her eyes.
To show her as many looks as possible in one makeover, I decided to teach her two other ways she can have fun with color in her makeup. In the picture on the left, the eye marked with the number 1 is a great neutral look that can be worn for pretty much any occasion. The red lips marked with a 2 is just a way to make a statement even without wearing any other makeup (see my tutorial on how to apply red lipstick). Finally, the eye marked with 3 is a colorful party look — she’s going to Vegas after all! I used 4 colors from her MAC ‘Eyeshadow x 6′ Palette in “Graphic Garden” that was released exclusively at Nordstrom in 2009.
I used my favorite beige-pink MAC Sheertone Blush in “Blushbaby” on her cheeks with Benefit Bronzing Powder in “Hoola” to contour, and lightly swept some translucent powder to set her makeup. As you can see in these pictures, the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer has a natural glow finish. If you want to matte it down a bit, then just apply some more powder.
Since the last (and only) time I gave Izzy a makeover was in my dorm for a school dance freshman year, I wanted to use this makeover time efficiently. This 3-in-1 makeover was a great way to go over three different looks in a short amount of time!
